Inter-Club Trip
Hi all,
So this is happening next weekend. Organise a car-pool by going to the Facebook inter club car-pooling event and find/offer a lift.
The day trips for SURMC people are:
Have a read of the individual trip details below.
If you don't have a tent/sleeping mat, you can find someone with a spare spot in their tent. Alternatively, the club has a few tents and some rather large inflatable sleeping mats. If you need to borrow these on Wednesday evening (between 5 and 7pm is you best bet).
We don't have sleeping bags, so if you don't have one try asking an outdoorsy friend.
Don't forget we are camping so bring food/ cooking utensils/ a mug/ cutlery...
There will be yoga in the mornings if your keen and no doubt some slack lining action in the evenings.
If you are driving up on Saturday it is probably easiest to meet at the crag (Land of the Giants or Zig Zag) at around 9am or so onwards.

Here’s a google link. But for those who don’t like Google……….get onto Megalong valley Road and keep driving, no turn offs, all the way to the very end of the road and we will be there. Don’t know where Megalong Valley road is, just google it.
https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Dunphys+Camping+Area,+Megalong+New+South+Wales+2785&ie=UTF-8&ei=Ii3fUqSvJcTkkgXW3oHYBQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ
When:
Arrive at the campsite on the night of Friday 21st February. The weekend activities will run on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of February.
Car Pooling:
Just a note on carpooling, I want everyone to try and carpool there for a number of reasons:
I will create an event on facebook for people to discuss lifts and ect and will post it on each of the clubs groups.
Activities:
So what will be there to do on this weekend?
We will running 4 trips on Saturday and 4 trips on Sunday. Below I have provided a brief description of what the activities are and where they will be run. Each activity will have a club representative (trip leader), these representatives will co-run the trip with the other representatives. If you have any questions about a specific trip please refer to YOUR clubs rep for the answer, if they cannot answer come talk Jake Griffiths (UTS).
Saturday:
Rock Climbing - Beginners and Intermediates (RS1 a must)
Location: Land of the Giants
https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/historic-wells
Description:
Land of the Giants is a great little crag located at Bardens lookout. It has grades starting from 14 right up to the mid 20’s. We will be setting up some top ropes for those who cannot lead, but keep in mind I do require everyone to have completed Rock Skills 1. For those who don’t know what’s in Rock Skills 1, essentially you must have climbed outdoors before, know how to belay, tie themselves in with a figure 8, and general cliff safety. If you have any doubts please contact the trip representative of your club.
Rock Climbing - Trad + Advanced (Sport)
Location: Zig Zag
https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/the-zigzag
Description:
For those who are looking for a little more adventure on the Saturday of the rock kind, a group will be heading to Zig Zag Crag. This is has a variety of interesting climbs and styles from Trad to Sport climbing. I am sure you all understand what is involved in terms of skill to come on this trip but for those who don’t please contact the trip representative of your club. Please note, no top ropes will be set up for this trip.
Hiking
Location: Breakfast Creek and Ironmonger Hill.
Description:
Starting and ending at the campground this hike covers a variety of landscapes. We'll first head along Breakfast Creek towards the Coxs River and then up and over Ironmonger. We should have excellent views to the north from the top of Ironpot Mountain and we'll see Aboriginal sharpening grooves. Perhaps also a red belly black snake or two.
It's an intermediate level hike with approximately 5 hours of walking and covering 13 km (600m ascent). There are a few steep inclines and declines and a little bit of scrambling.
There are a lot of nettles so it's wise to wear long pants or gaiters.
Canyon
Location: TBA
Description:
The location is yet to be released as details are being finalised with the trips representatives. For those who wish to go on a Canyon trip will be running one each day, at different locations. It is important to understand that canyoning involves traveling in canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling (rapelling), and/or swimming. You must be a confident swimming and have skills in abseiling. When you sign up for this trip, let your clubs representative for this trip know of your abilities.
Sunday:
Rock Climbing - Beginners and Intermediates (RS1 a must)
Location: TBA
Description:
This trip will be a mixture of beginner to intermediate climbs, with the same kind of structure in mind as the Saturday rock climbing trip. These trips will accommodate beginner climbers as well as give an opportunity to the who wish to lead and climb on some harder place. The location will be chosen over the next few days with this criteria in mind.
We will be setting up some top ropes for those who cannot lead, but keep in mind I do require everyone to have completed Rock Skills 1. For those who don’t know what’s in Rock Skills 1, essentially everyone must have climb outdoors before, know how to belay, tie themselves in with a figure 8 and general cliff safety. If you have any doubts please contact the trip representative of your club.
