Beginner Trip: Top Roping @ Blue Mtns (Dam Cliffs)

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Trip moved from Sat to Sun 9th
Only climbed on plastic? Itching to get on some real rock? This trip is aimed at people who have none or little outdoor climbing experience. Climbs will be top roped and will be shorter, up to 15m, from about grade 10 and up. We’ll be heading to the Dam Cliffs.
For the more experienced people there are a lot of grades in the mid to high teens as well as low twenties. This trip will also be good for new leaders wanting to add some lower grade leads to their tick list.
At the end of the trip you should be confident with basic outdoor climbing skills which will put you in good stead to come on some more advanced trips with the club in the future. Skills include:
- Tying a figure eight
- Belaying (without using a GriGri like in the Ledge)
- Basic safety climbing calls such as, “on belay”, “take”, “safe” etc.
The Lowdown:
- Trip Level: BEGINNER
- Meet at the Ledge at 7.30am, Sunday 9th Aug.
- Cars make their way to Blackheath Cafe to regroup, get some caffeine etc before the final drive to the Dam Cliffs
- Sign up using the form below and place a comment stating whether you have a car and how many spaces you have available or whether you need a lift

Hi,
My buddy Dari and I would love to come along. We’ve both done a fair bit of indoor climbing and can’t wait to climb on some real rocks! We have shoes but nothing else, does the rest of the gear just get bummed from the club?

For the beginner trips, yes.
Most trips you would have to see the gear meanie (Dean) on Wednesday or a pre-arranged date at the Ledge to pick up gear, but for the beginner trips we usually bring all the relevant gear in anticipation a large group won’t have gear already organised by the time everyone’s at the crag.

Hi all, change of plan — I have a family commitment in Sydney at 3pm on Sunday August 9, so I either won’t be able to make it or will have to bail early. I’ll keep you guys posted but it would be best to assume that my three car spaces are no longer available. Sorry!!

My car is @the auto electrician today getting fixed up so should be right for a blue’s trip in a week. Other people do tend to lack a little faith in the old girl getting them there though 8( so better to organize your own lift if you can.

Ok everyone here is the lowdown on transport. We have 17 people attending, 2 of whom are making their own way there (lester & calem).
That leaves 15 people with 2 cars with a total of 10 spaces.
Unless Mick can swing past the ledge to pick up some people we are desperately short of car spaces.
Can anyone else please get their hands on a car for the day??

I have closed registrations for this trip for now. We need more car spaces. If you are really sad to have missed out email me (contact details in the post) and I’ll see what i can do.
If we russle up some more transport then i may reopen it.

Update – Mik has offered to drive and will have 4 spaces available. This means we have 3 cars each with 5 people in them. At this stage I won’t reopen registration unless we can get another car.
Strat is a maybe on coming and can’t drive on the day.

David Mulligan’s no longer coming so those 4 spaces are gone. Calem’s riding (i.e. can’t take anyone) and I don’t know about Lester.
It would be good if everyone could com down on Wednesday and we could write up a list. Don’t want any disappointment on the day.

Lester lives in orange and will be meeting us in BH. We are now at capacity with Derek being the final person. Even if we vet more car spaces we have a lot of beginners that need supervision. Cheers Georgi.

Hi zcjsshexh, you have not yet indicated if you have a car or not. Nonetheless, if you turn up outside the Ledge on Sunday morning I’m sure there will be a space for you, even if it is in Sean’s death mobile of death.

zcjsshexh is actually the swear word Fiona uses at hexes when they aren’t bomber.
Just a quick update on the car situation:
Since I closed registration: 4 people have signed up (by either emailing me or seeing me at the ledge), 1 of whom has a car (Rowan).
